TOPSHAM — For much of the summer, Vermont escaped the drought that shriveled up crops and depleted some drinking water wells in parts of southern New England. KEENE, N.H. &GT;&GT; Firefighters in Keene, New Hampshire, are investigating what caused a fire at a vacant, two-story residential building. Firefighters arrived Tuesday afternoon to find heavy fire coming from the back of the building, and more were called in to help. They there's extensive damage to at least 50 percent of the 26-by-60-foot building.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. &GT;&GT; Police in Rochester say they're investigating separate shootings that occurred about three hours apart and left three people with gunshot wounds. Officers say the first shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. Tuesday on Pardee Street. When police arrived they found a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman had been shot in the lower body.

WMUR-TV reports the message was discovered by Clint Buffington, of Utah, while he was vacationing in the Turks and Caicos. Buffington says he found a Coke bottle half-buried in the sand.

The Caledonian Record reports a Caledonia Superior Court judge denied Keith Baird's request for a reconsideration of his 12 ½ to 17 ½ year sentence handed down in March 2015 for violating an abuse prevention order.

WSAW-TV reports that investigators say the Monday night conservation group gathering in Amherst had nothing to do with politics.
